Job Title: Part-Time Classroom Facilitator
Organization Overview:
The Civic Education Center (CEC) aims to inspire civility in America by creating opportunities for youth to learn and practice civic values and democratic skills. Our programs focus on preparing the next generation to meet 21st-century challenges with a deep commitment to U.S. citizenship. We work closely with volunteers and educators to bring high-quality, student-centered civic education to classrooms statewide.
Position Overview:
The Part-Time Classroom Facilitator will support the successful implementation of CEC's civic education programs in classroom settings. Reporting to the CEC Program Director, you will be responsible for delivering materials according to CEC standards and protocols. Working closely with volunteers and teachers, you will facilitate activities that foster student engagement, leadership, and civic participation. You will guide students in exploring democratic values, practicing critical thinking, and developing skills for effective civic involvement.
Key Responsibilities:

Facilitate student-centered learning experiences, encouraging participation, leadership, and engagement in civic education activities

Support the teacher of record by facilitating lesson plans, leading discussions, and coordinating volunteer involvement

Guide volunteers in maintaining professional boundaries, adhering to CEC’s zero-tolerance policies, and ensuring student safety and privacy

Provide real-time support during classroom activities, including addressing any issues or questions that arise

Model positive behavior and respect for diversity, ensuring an inclusive environment for all students

Assist in preparing and organizing materials for lessons and activities

Offer constructive feedback to volunteers on their interactions with students, helping them improve their engagement strategies

Follow crisis protocols, including school safety procedures, and ensure a safe environment for all participants

Uphold CEC's mission and values, promoting civic responsibility and active participation

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
-
Must pass a background check and fingerprint clearance
-
Experience working with youth in an educational, mentoring, or facilitation capacity
-
Understanding of civic education, democratic values, and student-centered learning approaches
-
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse groups of students and volunteers

Awareness of issues related to equity and access
-
Ability to maintain professional boundaries and adhere to organizational policies, including mandated reporting requirements
-
Flexible, adaptable, and capable of working in dynamic classroom environments
-
A commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful learning environment
-
Proof of valid driver’s license, current car registration, and auto insurance

Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience in leadership, youth development, or community organizing
-
Background in education, social work, community leadership, or a related field
-
Familiarity with strength-based and transformational leadership techniques

Hours & Compensation:
This is a part-time position with flexible hours, requiring approximately 20 hours per week at $16.60 - $22.00 an hour, commensurate with experience. Mileage will be paid to and from the Civic Education Center and school sites, upon accurate and timely submission for reimbursement.
