CEC staff guide teachers, students and community members in civil dialogue about controversial issues, including the new Ethnic Studies course and promoting equity and inclusiveness, in the context of American civic values. In Visalia USD, there was a conflict about the text for the Ethnic Studies class. Dr. Stephen Morris and Dr. John Minkler created a consensus around the concept of Reflective Patriotism, affirming the need to teach patriotism and critical thinking about our history and current issues. Both are essential.
